AHS Style Challenge: Neutrals for Fall Oct 9 Written By Nicole + Stephanie It would be easy to say that Fall is one of the best seasons of the year, but what makes it so special is not only the colourful leaves, the crisp cool air, or even the cozy beverages (though these are all a plus) but the incredible fashion. With cooler weather it means more opportunity for layering and denser textures often calling for muted, neutral tones, bringing our wardrobe pallets back to basics. For this AHS style challenge, we wanted to create looks only using neutral colours like white, grey, brown, beige, navy or black. Each look had to serve as either a work outfit, something to run errands in, or a look that we would love to cozy up in to enjoy the season. Let’s dive in! Neutrals at Work Nicole: This outfit makes me so happy for so many reasons! It is not a secret that I love to play with suiting in my wardrobe and thought what better time to pull out this gorgeous brown slack than for a neutral challenge! Paired with a button-up that is a play on the classic oxford shirt, a brown sweater over the shoulders and platform sneakers this outfit is effortless, chic. Although it is neutral, it doesn’t sacrifice style. Finished off with my leather bag I would wear this any day of the week! Steph:It’s no secret that I’m not a big neutrals girlie, but when I do have a moment with this kind of palette, I tend to gravitate towards navy, white or grey. Marrying black, grey and white together this neutral work look provides a surprising amount of comfort while still feeling elevated and professional. I love a skirt moment because it does just that! My bag and shoes work to bring out the black in the blazer, while the white of my simple tee and silk skirt complement the blazer’s grey tones, leaving this look feeling polished. Cozying Up N: This challenge was the perfect excuse to pull out a piece that has been a recent addition to my wardrobe, the soft shacket! I love this piece because it is very comfortable for layering and has enough structure to be dressed up or down. Paired with a wide-leg relaxed pant and a long-sleeved grey tee, I could see myself cozying up to watch a fall movie with no problem, and if you need to go grab your takeout, the white sneakers and baseball cap are the perfect additions to complete the look! S:When I think of neutrals I always think of monochromatic looks. Dressing in one neutral colour family has the ability to elevate your look, adding richness, even if you’re just going to be watching a movie with your love. Cue my collection of cozy grey pieces, featuring a grey wide-leg sweatpant, grey knit turtleneck and textured shrug cardigan. I added a little bit more visual interest with silver flats to compliment the coolness of the grey palette. Running Errands N: There is something so wonderful about finding the perfect separates set, and this outfit is no different. This lightweight grey crop tee and midi slit skirt set are the perfect combination for running around town. Because they are light weight you have the option of adding a layer like this leather duster to make the look feel complete. Add in a tote bag and you are ready for anything from grabbing groceries to sipping a cappuccino and watching the world go by. S: I always feel fresh and polished wearing white so I knew I wanted to do a more predominantly white fit. For this look, I flirted with monochrome while still inviting other colours to offer a pop of interest. My white wide-leg denim is the perfect base, pairing it with a cute Peter Pan collar blouse for the monochromatic effect. To finish the look I introduced a rich cognac colour to the palette in a sweater over the shoulder as well as the cross-body bag. This look is chic and effortless, perfect for wherever my day takes me! Want more style inspiration? Check out our Style section and our Instagram to stay in the know. Nicole + Stephanie
