Fall Style Swap

Well, we have finally arrived at our favourite season, and with it comes the exciting moment when we can start to unearth our beloved knits and layers to create incredible outfits. This year we thought we would switch things up and let each other into our respective closets to create three looks in our personal style. As you likely know by now Nicole is partial to neutrals while Steph is partial to colours and patterns so this was an exercise in surrendering and embracing each other’s vibe. To ensure we were both happy with our looks we gave each other a few rules:

  1. It has to be Pre-Fall ready (so a combination of light and heavy fabrics)

  2. We each had to create a look with a dress, denim, and a sweater

  3. We both had to feel good about what we were wearing!

Though there were some combinations I think we were both surprised by, at the end of the day this was a great way to learn more about what’s in your closet with a fresh pair of eyes. Check out the looks!

Dress Look

Nicole: I chose an A-line polka-dot dress for Steph and though it has a fabulous puff sleeve I wanted to make sure she had an extra layer for that fall breeze, so the wool shacket was a must. To complete the look I added her signature belt bag and neutral combat boots to match the jacket, creating a look that is neutral with a feminine twist.

Stephanie: Nicole feels comfort in the elegance and chicness of wearing black, so to start I wanted to ease her in. I chose her sleeveless knit black dress, which I think should be a wardrobe staple. Wear it alone or with layers and it’s the perfect transitional piece! I wanted to create a look that felt elevated and timeless, so under this minimalistic essential, I layered Nicole’s white button-down shirt. Its light embroidery and airy fabric offer visual interest and a nod to warmer months. With a look like this, feeling more put together and professional, I wanted to balance it out by pairing Nicole’s black leather boots and a reusable bag to add a hint of edge and casual vibe.

Denim Look

N: It is no secret that I love a blazer look and this felt like the perfect opportunity for Steph to sport my favourite in her closet! Paired with a low-key body suit, wide-leg denim, a black bag and a fun teel boot, I love that this look is good for almost any occasion and is elevated without feeling rigid.

S: Here is where I begin to incorporate colour since it’s not something I tend to shy away from. I love a chartreuse for fall, it always feels so warm and rich to me this time of year. I started with Nicole’s chartreuse sleeveless sweater as it’s the perfect transitional weight for fall and offers a great base for layering. From there I wanted to stay in the green family, so paired Nicole’s forest green blazer. I love a blazer with wide-leg denim, so these jeans of Nicole’s were a no-brainer. I finished the look with some accessories to add a feeling of funkiness including eye-catching white boots, the luxe texture of the velvet clutch and finished off with gold jewelry.

Sweater Look

N: I didn’t take this one too literally and had Steph try a sleeveless sweater with a mock-neck. Paired with a similarly toned off-white skirt and a white patterned boot I thought this was a great elevated day look that would keep you ready no matter the weather. Adding bold gold accessories and a leather clutch, this look feels effortless and timeless all at once.

S: With a challenge like a style swap, I wanted to also push Nicole a little outside of her comfort zone by outfitting her in a look with lighter neutral tones. Nicole and I often joke about how we’re sometimes opposites when it comes to style, one way being in the colours we gravitate towards. I love to wear white, while she thrives in black. So, to offer a nod to my lighter pallets, I wanted to put her in a light neutral monochromatic look, starting with her cozy oatmeal sweater vest, and pairing it with her light sand denim. I finished the look with a touch of warmth featured in her cognac boots and bag.
