Summer Self-Care Jul 17 Written By Stephanie Kinsman The Summer months tend to slip away like a refreshing bottle of rose, quick but oh-so-delicious! With full social calendars, commitments and often vacations, it’s no mystery where this season goes, but how do we savour it and enjoy the moments while we have them? Cue Summer Self-Care. While spending time with friends, attending weddings, or exploring new places is obviously exciting and so needed this time of year, it’s so important to balance all of these commitments with self-care, to ensure you’re at your best and able to be completely present when enjoying this social season. Today I’m sharing my top tips for caring for yourself during the busy summer months! Get OutsideAlthough often boisterously hot, it’s so important to get out into nature to reset. Being around sunshine, flowers, trees, and water are all amazing sources to refill your cup. They all have a remarkable way of quietly telling us to slow down and enjoy the moment. Whether you’re going for a walk, swimming in the lake, sitting in a park, or playing in the garden, these are all great ways to take a moment for yourself and connect with your needs so that you can be better equipped to handle all that these sunny days can throw at you. Make PlansDepending on whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, we all care for ourselves and recharge differently. So whether you need to be social to renew those batteries, or get yourself out to balance your required alone time, making plans is always a good idea! Book social time with people that fill your cup and make your heart happy. If you’re someone who fills their calendar with work commitments, put this time aside, I promise you won’t regret it! Give yourself a little break, it is the summer after all! Spend Time ReadingReading is one of my favourite pastimes, regardless of the season, but it feels that much more magical when you get to do it on a patio at the cottage or a beach. Time just seems to slip away as you get lost in characters, or perhaps learning about a new and interesting topic. The Summer months are naturally a very active time, so putting aside an hour a day to be still and engage with words can re-fuel you so that you can continue to play, run, swim or bike to your heart’s desire! Refreshing BeveragesIt’s hot. It’s Summer. Hydrate yourself dang it! Whether it’s enjoying extra water in this (and every) season, or a beverage that is a little more indulgent, there’s something so lovely about taking the time to get a summer bevie, whether it be an Aperol spritz on the patio or an iced lemonade as you run errands. Personally, I love how refreshing beverages make me feel as I’m out and about on my day so I prioritize them. It might seem like the smallest thing, but that’s truly what self-care is, noting the small things that lift you up, recharge you and make you feel good. If it’s not any of these things for you, find the little pleasures that make you feel cared for and refreshed as you walk through your everyday life, you deserve it!
