Creating A Bath Time Ritual

Many years ago when I (Nicole) worked in a soap store I started to learn about all the different elements and influences a simple bath could have on your mood and your day. Whether it was starting your day off with bright citrus scents or lulling you to sleep with lavender and chamomile. Bath time has become one of my favourite self-care rituals to have some proper time to myself. Taking the time to intentionally have a soak and read a book is something special so today I’m going to walk you through my favourite recipe for the perfect bath.

Step 1. Pick the right time

I’ll be the first to admit this is not a daily practice for me mainly because of the amount of water it uses. If I am going to have a proper soak I try to select a day and time I know I can be undisturbed for at least an hour to make sure the water is fully used and appreciated.

Step 2. Pick your scent scheme

When pouring a bath I like to think about how I want to feel afterwards. Usually, this will be during a quiet afternoon so something mellow but uplifting is my favourite kind of scent scheme. For this, I’ll usually select some kind of citrus base for each product I use so the smells don’t clash. That being said the addition of some floral elements is always welcome to bring a little levity and luxury to the scents in the room.

Step 3. Start pouring & set up your space

As the bath pours I like to pull out my favourite candles, grab a book and select a playlist for my time soaking. I also like to sometimes include fresh fruit in my bath so this is the perfect time to quickly chop up your oranges and grapefruits before the bath is ready.

Step 4. Add bubbles

When the bath is about ⅔ full I like to start to pour in my bubble bath. Most bubble products are activated by moving water so swishing the water around with your arm or pouring the liquid close to the running rap will yield the best results.

Step 5. Add your special additions

Once you have a full tub and have turned off the tap it’s time to add your special item. This can be anything from petals, Milk bath, or bath salts. Whatever you prefer, this will be the thing that helps you get the most results out of your bath whether it’s relaxation, hydration, or exfoliation. I love adding milk bath in particular because of it’s hydration benefits for the skin, especially during winter.

Step 6. Top it off with your fresh elements

Add in your fresh fruit to add an element of freshness to your bath experience. Fresh citrus has so many benefits to your mood so it can only add to the experience of restoration.

Step 7. Enjoy

Now is the best part when you can take a deep breath, step into your magic little space and enjoy some time on your own. We all work so hard and sometimes giving ourselves permission to relax, be still, and rest in the quiet water is the perfect way to restore our energy and come back to our lives more ready for the days ahead.
