Transitioning Your Home From Summer to Fall

The moment we hit September 1st, something in the air beckons the notion of a fresh start, new beginnings and change. Whether you’re part of a school system preparing for a new semester or just a fan of the season, Autumn feels like a time for renewal, reflection, and most of all a reset. Reflecting on this tone in your home is one of the many pleasures of a changing season, so today I wanted to share with you some of my favourite ways to bring my home into the fall.

Let your neutrals shine

Though the leaves turn bright hues of orange, yellow and red, going back to neutral in my space is refreshing and calming this season. As this time of year feels in line with “newness”, having a simplified home to provide a relaxing ambiance that is consistent and neutral feels like the reset you need. Bringing in earth tones like taupe, gold and white and natural finishes like stone, grass and wood are all a great place to start.

Keep it light

Knowing that the holidays are just around the corner, I like to take the fall as an opportunity to reflect on any clutter or business that has accumulated in my home. With such a busy Summer season I find it easy to find numerous knick-knacks and decor items haphazardly placed, often not put back where they should be because I wasn’t home to do it. Now that there's a little more grounded energy in my life, taking a moment to lighten my displays and simplify my shelves feels like a welcome act in self-care.

Adapt your coffee table

Coffee tables, like many flat surfaces, tend to become the place we put things and though I enjoyed having a more colourful and vibrantly styled living room for the summer, taking the opportunity to simplify it to a small collection of items for visual interest is a great way to add some calm, cozy vibes to enjoy.

Bring in earthy scents

As you know candles are one of my favourite things to enjoy in my home, especially on a rare, leisurely Saturday, taking in the light and ambiance of the room. So take this as an opportunity to find some scents you enjoy that are more on the earthy side and embrace that fall change. I am partial to cedarwood, lavender, chai, and pine to help you get started.

Go back to basics

All in all, going back to your roots is always a nice feeling, especially when it feels like there is so much change going on around you. Taking the time to reset your home and make it feel like the fall getaway you’ve always wanted is one of the many ways you can make the most of this season and find some calm in your little corner of the world.
