Coffee Tour: Best Coffee In Roncesvalles
If you know Stephanie and me, we take coffee pretty seriously. I (Nicole) have lived in a lot of different parts of Toronto, including Roncesvalles, and nothing makes me happier than spending a quiet morning chatting with my husband over a thoughtfully crafted latte.
Roncesvalles (for those who don’t know) is on the west side of the city, close to Hyde Park, one of the largest parks in Toronto. The street is known for its trendy shops and local dining, but its coffee is something special. So let’s dive in! We’ve broken down our three favourite places to grab warm beverages in Roncesvalles!
Cherry Bomb
What’s the vibe?
Another well-loved local gem, Cherry Bomb is more hip-rustic. They almost always have a line outside and piles of pastries for sale.
How’s the coffee?
The coffee is “da-bomb”, a light, acidic espresso that helps you get your day started!
What’s our favourite treat?
My favourite would be the gruyere croissant, a perfect blend of cheese and bread.
Why we love it?
It’s a relaxed place with friendly staff that you can pop into any hour of the day. They also have a stamp card for those frequent caffienators!
Extra Butter
What’s the vibe?
Extra butter is a well-loved staple of the area, with a ‘take a book leave a book’ system inside, and delightful pastries and donuts for purchase.
How’s the coffee?
The coffee is just that, buttery and delightful. The staff take extra care with every drink, measuring espresso beans so it’s just right!
What’s our favourite treat?
It’s probably implied but their butter croissants are essentially magic.
Why we love it?
It’s a relaxed place with friendly staff that you can pop into any hour of the day. They also have a stamp card for those frequent caffienators!
Ideal
What’s the vibe?
Though Ideal has a location on Ossington, there are two in Roncesvalles, which makes it feel a little more like home. This shop is classic Toronto with upcycled furniture and market items like bread and snacks for sale outside of their coffee offerings, all made on a vintage espresso machine with lever pulls for some extra style.
How’s the coffee?
More on the floral end of espresso, this coffee is smooth and if you don’t mind a minor bitterness, can go without sugar no problem.
What’s our favourite treat?
The Almond croissant is the perfect combination of sweet & salty!
Why we love it?
Ideal is the perfect place to sit down for a coffee and one of the few shops with seating available for the moment. It’s a great place to people-watch across the park, enjoy a treat, and some good company.
